MURRAY MACGREGOR

He has been viewed as the ‘King of Curling’ at the Guelph Curling Club for over 46 years. On many occasions he represented not only the club, but his district at Ontario championships winning several awards including the Provincial Intermediate title (for curlers over 40) in 1970,1975 and 1976.

MacGregor is loved by many because of the time he spent coaching new and experienced curlers alike. They all benefited from his knowledge, patience and true love of the game. The former President of the GCC was also known as one of the best strategists in the game, holding several clinics to share his thought process when it came to shot making. He also ventured outside the club itself, coaching the University of Guelph team for many years.

Off the ice, MacGregor helped many clubs in Canada grow through the decades. He hosted many seminars teaching clubs management and finance courses for the Canadian Curling Association, allowing them to continue to offer the sport of curling, while staying financially viable. MacGregor is an Honorary Member of the Ontario Curling Association for his many years of service, but perhaps the greatest tribute comes every time a Guelph curler takes part in a curling bonspiel outside the Royal City. As one GCC member put it … “You can’t go to an event and not have someone ask How’s Murray MacGregor doing?” He is the true definition of a gentleman.

Inducted into the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame April 29, 1996
