GLADSTONE (GLAD) MOWATT

Glad was one of the original founders of the Guelph Minor Hockey Association back in 1948 and that began a life-long commitment. It wasn’t until 1993 that he stepped aside after 45 years in the GMHA, making sure the children of our city had a chance to play the sport Canadians hold so dear.

He has received numerous awards in recognition of his dedication to amateur sport. Among them, he received the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association Jubilee Year Merit award in 1965, and a year later he received special recognition from both the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and the GMHA. Glad was granted a life membership to the GMHA in 1971 and in 1988 was one of just six Guelph recipients to receive the Olympic Medallion award.

His endless hours of labour, behind the scenes, literally touched generations.

Inducted into the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame – Builder category – on April 7, 1994
