He is affectionately known as ‘Mr. Camp’ to many lives he has touched while immersing himself in the sport of hockey. He played OHA Junior hockey and Intermediate hockey in the 1930’s and later suited up for the Canadian Army’s Petawawa Blue Bombers during the Second World War, but it was when his playing days were over he really began to make his mark.
He coached and managed for many years in the Guelph Minor Hockey Association and in 1979 was awarded the Canadian Amateur Association Award for service to the GMHA. Mr. Camp went on to become the Vice President of Hockey Operations with the Guelph Platers and was instrumental in the teams three trips to the Centennial Cup final. They won the coveted trophy in 1977-78. He stayed with the team when they entered the Ontario Hockey League winning the Memorial Cup in 1985-86. In 1989 he was presented the Bill Long Award for outstanding contribution to Junior Hockey.
Despite his awards and championships, he will be remembered by hundreds of young men for the positive influence he had in their lives.
